This unit revolves around the theme of back-to-school shopping and advertising. The introductory video features teens participating in a televised round-table discussion on back-to-school shopping. Students will discuss what they buy for la rentrée, where they shop and how they shop. They will conduct a survey to determine the most popular items bought for back-to-school. Students will discuss department stores and listen to and compose their own in-store announcements. They will read a department store flyer, as well as short articles about the Hudson’s Bay Company and Roots, two uniquely Canadian enterprises.
