Developed for a variety of students
In the development of all of our new destreamed resources, we recognize that your classrooms will host a variety of students at differing levels of ability, literacy skills, strengths, and needs, and that educators will need help addressing these challenges. In order to equip you with the best tools to teach in a destreamed classroom, we are creating all of our resources with the following considerations:
CRRP (Culturally Responsive and Relevant Pedagogy): we will provide materials to engage students with authentic diverse Indigenous and cultural examples. Our development process now includes a review stage focused exclusively on CRRP, which helps us to create world-class content for your classrooms.
Assessment: We’ll provide Low floor/high ceiling assessment tools, and triangulation opportunities (observation, conversation, worked product) to assess all learners.
Choice: we will offer a wide range of activities, student product, exemplars, and questioning to facilitate connections for all students.
Promoting community over competition: our resources will provide opportunities for collaboration, co-constructed learning, and co-creation (in random groups) over competition. This allows educators to find out what their students are capable of doing, what inspires them, and then to enable it.
Student worked product: we recognize that it’s important to use online tools so students can represent their learning in different ways, via audio recordings, infographics, video, which offer variety in how students express their learning, and the opportunity to scaffold when needed.
Making trusted content starts with making content trusted
We have updated our editorial and production process to ensure that Ontario educators are equipped with a comprehensive resource that meets the need of each student. New content is informed by educators through cross-province representation; by our new Advisory Circles for core Grade 9 educators, CRRP, and Indigenous Knowledge Systems; and through engagement with assessment specialists, digital instructional designer, and coding/STEM leads.
Our new review stage is focused exclusively on Culturally Responsive and Relevant Pedagogy (CRRP). When content is flagged during this review stage, it is sent back to Content Development for adjustments and redevelopment. This important cycle helps us to create world-class content for your classrooms, prioritizing resource quality and equity for students.
