The Importance of the Railway
Web Links
Canadian
Heritage Transportation Gallery
The Canadian Heritage Gallery is an excellent opportunity
to access the visual history of transportation in Canada. Students should
first click on the link Passenger Trains, 1800-1885. Then have them click
on the thumbnail photo of the 1869 Sleeping Car. You might have students
compare rail cars from that era to the ones they see today.
Answer
Key The
Importance of the Railway
The
Canadian
Heritage Gallery Web site gives students the opportunity
to discover the importance of the railway to the Interior Plains and to
make a poster to demonstrate this. To help students with their posters,
you may need to review the grid square method of enlarging an image. You
should review assessment criteria with students using the Poster Rubric
(AT 3) on page 93 of the Geographical Regions Teacher's Guide
before beginning this activity. Students can find information
about the importance of the railway to the region on page 44 of the Interior
Plains Student Book.
After
students have completed the activity, review their responses to the Web
site evaluation and discuss the reasons for their answers.
