BC Government  

The government's "BC Facts" link near the bottom left-hand side of the home page has information about the official symbols of the province, people, industries, and natural resources as well as a map that can be down loaded and printed. Web site information is easy to access and suitable for grade 4, 5, & 6 students.

BC Archives Time Machine  

This BC Archives Web site is an excellent resource designed specifically for students. Information is easy to access and suitable for grade 4, 5, & 6 students. Print information is supplemented with numerous photographs from the BC Archives collection.

Encourage the development of logical reasoning by asking students to provide reasons for their selection of each event. Evaluating the importance of one event in comparison with another can be challenging for students. Completing this activity using a Think-Pair-Share or other group structure can help.

You may wish to use or adapt the following criteria to evaluate students' timelines:

  • The student uses an appropriate format for a timeline, with dates and events of descriptions clearly labelled and marked on the timeline.
  • The student includes an appropriate number of dates/events on the timeline.
  • The information is accurate and events are concisely described.
  • The student's explanation of choices made in creating the timeline show an ability to focus the topic and include only the most relevant information.
