Web Links
Canadian
Heritage Aboriginal Peoples Gallery To learn
more about the ways in which Aboriginal peoples adapted to their environment,
students will find a reliable source in this Web site by the Canadian
Heritage Gallery. The site provides numerous photographs, diagrams, maps,
and other information about Aboriginal peoples in Canada. For the Arctic
region, direct students to the Inuit and Northwest Territories links.
Nunavut
For the most current and accurate information on Canada's newest territory,
visit the official Web site of the territorial government of Nunavut.
Of particular interest is the link button All About Nunavut, where the
links to the symbols and fact sheets are particularly worth investigating.
(You should remind students that the political boundary of Nunavut does
not correspond with the geographical regional boundary.)

Inuit
Ingenuity: Arctic Clothing
The
Web site from the National
Library of Canada has information about the clothing
worn by the Inuit in the Arctic. Since the site contains language that
may be difficult for some students, you may want to conduct a guided reading
strategy with the class. As a follow-up exercise, students can do some
additional research to compare the traditional parka with clothing worn
in the Arctic today.
After
students have completed the activity, review their responses to the Web
site evaluation and discuss the reasons for their answers.
