Write_Traits

The WriteTraits Classroom Kits provide ready-to-use, practical activities to help students understand the six traits of effective writing and incorporate those traits into their own writing assignments.

Based on the work of Vicki Spandel, these kits provide clear criteria for high writing performance, rubrics of teachers and students, and samples of student work at all grade levels to give meaning to the criteria and the rubrics. Effective teaching strategies are provided with mini lessons and follow-up activities, as well as an effective revision process for students.

Each Kit includes:

  • Teacher's guide with specific instructional strategies, trait specific lessons, detailed assessment rubrics for monitoring growth and development
  • Student Traitbook with six trait lessons, writing models, revision checklists and self-assessment checklist
  • Teacher transparencies organized by trait for use in small groups, or as a mini-lesson
  • Two double sided posters displaying a Revision Checklist and Traits Summary, ideal for reinforcement
  • Six-trait self-adhesive note pads for reviewing traits, comments, and student paper scores (5.3" x 3" pads)
